The Chimacum-Toandos Peninsula Loop is a classic 44-mile road ride that will take you through both the pastoral Beaver Valley area south of Chimacum on the Quimper Peninsula and the quiet, more remote roads of the Toandos Peninsula south of Highway 104. Additional mileage can be had at either the northernmost extent of the ride, heading towards more populous areas like Port Hadlock, Cape George or Port Townsend, or the southernmost extent of the ride, pedaling toward the tiny, but quaint, town of Coyle. With over 4,000 feet of elevation gain, this route is ideal for the hill climbing enthusiast.

Heading south on Center Road from the parking lot, the route is generally rolling, with numerous, extended, moderate-to-steeply graded (5-10% +) climbs and descents. Flat sections can be found, but not in abundance. The route takes you primarily through forested areas, with some views westward to the Olympics. Turning northward on this loop route eventually brings you back to Hwy 104. On weekends an alternative route to Port Ludlow via Teal Lake Road may be preferable to the more heavily used Paradise Road approach shown on the map. (To ride the alternative route, turn left when Hwy 104 is reached and travel a short distance before turning right on Teal Lake Road towards Port Ludlow.) This town is the only other place on this route besides Chimacum where refreshments and bathroom facilities can be found.

Heading north from Hwy 104, the terrain remains rolling to hilly on lightly travelled roads until you get back to Center Road. Proceeding northward from here on Center Road to Chimacum, the route is generally flat to gently rolling. The last section of the route takes you southward on quiet West Valley Road, which gently rises to offer the cyclist numerous scenic overlooks of Beaver Valley. It ends with a nice downhill to boost you on your way back to the parking lot off Center Road several miles away.
