Al Piemme was a local cycling icon and, in his 70s and 80s, a world-class competitive cyclist who regularly won championships and finished well ahead of those 10 or 20 years younger.
Al’s favorite training ride was a loop from his home in Sequim, to Port Angeles, up Hurricane Ridge, and back–a distance of about 80 miles with a nice “little” 5000′ plus climb in the middle. And he’d do that several times a week!
Al passed away in 2014, but his fellow cyclists gather each year to June to remember him by riding up Hurricane Ridge, starting in downtown Port Angeles to go from “sea to summit.”
Come join us as we “ride the Hurricane” for Al, share stories about him, and toast his accomplishments as a cyclist and the great example and friendship he offered us.
